Special Committee to Explore Measuring Postsecondary Preparedness

National Assessment Governing Board Chair Terry Mazany created a special ad hoc committee that will explore new approaches in measuring skills required for postsecondary education and careers.

The Committee on Measures of Postsecondary Preparedness, comprising 11 Board members, will review existing research and collect testimony from experts, with a goal of presenting recommendations to the Governing Board by its November 2018 meeting.

The Governing Board began using The Nation’s Report Card in 2013 to estimate the percentage of grade 12 students who possess the knowledge and skills in reading and mathematics that make them academically prepared for first-year college coursework without remediation. The Governing Board has been conducting extensive research in this area since 2008.
