Assessing Our Past, Building for the Future

On February 26, 2014, the National Assessment Governing Board will convene a symposium in Washington, D.C. to commemorate its first 25 years of making a difference in education.  This website is designed to provide information for both in-person and livestream participants in the symposium, which will take place from 1:00 – 5:00 pm (ET).

The National Assessment Governing Board was created by Congress in 1988 to set policy for the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) — also known as The Nation’s Report Card.  NAEP is the premier continuing and nationally representative measure of student achievement in various academic subjects. The National Assessment is administered by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES).  The Governing Board and NCES ensure that NAEP maintains its status as the gold standard of student assessment.

The 25th Anniversary Symposium will feature nationally recognized policymakers, educators, and researchers who will examine NAEP's past, current, and future challenges and initiatives in a series of informative and thought-provoking panel discussions.  This website will host various materials and multimedia related to the symposium and the chronicling of the Governing Board’s rich 25-year history.
